Verizon Will Launch $50 Unlimited Prepaid Plan

Posted on 13 September 2011 by admin

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Verizon Wireless is launching an unlimited voice and data prepaid plan. The plan will compete directly against Sprint and T-Mobile’s prepaid options. AT&T already offers a prepaid plan for $50 called GoPhone.

Verizon’s new $50 plan will include unlimited talk, text and web usage. Starting this Thursday, the plan will be available to eligible Verizon Wireless customers. It looks like iPhone users have one more reason to switch to Verizon.

“Verizon Wireless will begin offering the plan–which includes unlimited talk, text and Web use for $50 a month–on Thursday, said spokeswoman Brenda Raney. In addition to Verizon stores, it will be sold at Best Buy Co. (BBY), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) and Target Corp. (TGT) locations.

Verizon is making the push into unlimited prepaid plans as the category drives customer growth on Sprint’s Virgin Mobile and Boost brands, as well as MetroPCS. Prepaid plans, which have historically been marketed to lower-income customers, are becoming more attractive as the cost declines and phone choices improve.”

As the “cost declines” and “phone choices improve.” Interesting.

Apple has been quoted as saying that it has been trying to “figure out” the prepaid market, and CEO Tim Cook has said that Apple doesn’t want to make products that are “just for the rich.”

It’s rumored that Apple will make its first foray into the prepaid market this Fall with a cheaper iPhone model. Details are scarce, but it would be a crying shame for Apple’s next event to come and go without an iPhone that’s primed to take advantage of Verizon’s new plan.

The iPhone For Verizon Is Here

Posted on 03 February 2011 by admin

Well now, Verizon finally has the iphone (launch date 2-10-2011), almost. Just a little longer to wait. The iPhone sucks down a lot of data. How do I know? I own an iPhone, actually several iPhones. They are being used a lot. They have the you tube, surfing, mail, and a boat load of apps. I think the Verizon network will struggle with the data usage. I don’t like the fact that Verizon will throttle your data down when you are using too much. Too much is determined by Verizon (how convenient). I don’t like the fact that data and voice can’t co-exist at the same time. My iPhones work very well in the LA area, but once I head out to Arizona, forget it. The service suffers. Verizon kicks in when I am traveling to AZ. I may have to get both carriers, which is expensive. Another thng is that the iPhone 4 is already 8 months old. A new iPhone 5 is right around the corner. Are you going to buy a Verizon iPhone? It’s a 2 year contract, remember that.

iPhone Is (((Finally))) Coming To Verizon

Posted on 12 January 2011 by admin

Yes, it finally happened. The long wait is over. Verizon is getting the iPhone. Well, a lot of people are going to order one. Me, for one. The reception on AT&T is not good here in certain areas of L.A. It may be because there are a lot of hills, but still, It should be better. The antenna has been re-built, so that alone should help. From what I have been hearing, the iPhone will have the ability to have a hot spot with support up to 5 computers. That’s a good thing as long as the data charges are not heavy. Also, I hope all these people getting the Verizon iPhone will not choke the system. Verizon says no, but they have lied before. I don’t trust big communications companies. You also can’t talk on the phone and do data at the same time, which sucks. iOS 4.3 should in effect so it should be interesting. Feb 3, 2011 is the date for pre-order. Feb 10, 2011 is launch day. Count me in.
