Apple announces Steve Jobs has passed away

Several sources are reporting Apple has announced Steve Jobs has passed away.

The following statement was issued by Apple’s board of directors (via AllthingsD):

We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

He will be truly missed. Rest in peace.

It happened. He’s resigned.

Here it is in August and I want to go home from work and rest. A hot August night and Steve bails on me. It’s ok Steve. You’ve worked many a night and day on what has become the world’s richest company. I knew your friend Steve Wozniak. Actually my Dad knew your friend. I feel connected to Apple in more ways than one. I was first in line to buy the first iPhone. I have owned many Apple products. Your commitment to excellence shows in your products. I am not an Apple fanatic, but enjoy your products and will continue to buy them. Good luck Steve, take care.
